Governance

The Local Academy Committee

The Local Academy Committee at Sun Academy Bradwell is made up of dedicated members of the local community, staff and parents. Their role is to learn about the work of the academy and provide both challenge and support to ensure that strategies to raise standards and improve performance are delivering the promised impact. Governors also review a range of fundamental areas, including safeguarding, finances, resourcing, community engagement and provisions for health and safety.

Our governors are:

Chair – Miss Sue Finney (community)

Academy Committee (Chair), Leadership and Management, Pay Committee and appeals

Safeguarding and Prevent link governor

I have been a member of the Governing Body for 5 years and Chair for a number of years. I worked with Children and Families for Staffs County Council for 30 years so when I retired, I had time to spare to come into school and help out. I feel very fortunate to have been involved with the school changing to Sun Academy. I personally feel very passionate and proud to be part of the school and as a Governor see the amount of hard work and time that is given by each valuable member of staff to help EVERY child reach their own goal. As Chair of Governors I attend meetings with Trust members, the staff and with all members of the Governing body on a regular basis.
Vice Chair – Father Chris Routledge (community)

SEND governor

I’m Father Chris Routledge, the vicar of St Barnabas Church. I’m married to Clare, and our son Nathan attends Sun Academy Bradwell. I was previously a governor for two schools, both of which became academies whilst I was on the governing body. I was the link governor for Special Educational Needs (SEN), Early Years, and Religious Education. I’m a community governor for Sun Academy, and for me it’s a role which is exciting, rewarding and a huge privilege. The education of our children is foundational both for each individual child’s future, and also for a strong and healthy community in Bradwell. As a governor, anything I can do to help the school achieve this is time well spent.

Pupil Premium governor

Mr Kevan Ainsworth (Parent)

Academy Committee

Early Years Foundation Stage governor

I’m Kevan, due to semi-retirement from my role which I was in for over 30 years, I decided to do something different and take on the role of parent governor. I felt I wanted to take on a new challenge and make constructive use of my free time available. We currently have 3 children at SUN, (as well as older ones) and I’m enthusiastic about supporting children, staff and families as fully as possible.

I have previously worked in transport nearly all of my working life and I want to extend my skills and try something different.

Ms Surina Ainsworth (Parent)

Early Years Foundation Stage governor

I’m Surina, currently have 3 children at SUN, as well as older children. I have undertaken the role as Parent Governor at SUN to be part of this wonderful place to fully support all children and staff. I am currently half way through an honours degree through Open University, I have so far chosen a mix of health related and social science specialisms. I have previously worked mostly in accounts and health settings including the NHS and education. I am fully committed to helping everyone whom is part of SUN academy to become even better. I am a long standing member of various groups within Staffs County Council Special Needs departments. My current role is link early years governor and curriculum.
Mrs Clare Norcup (Staff)

Academy Committee

As a member of the community of Bradwell and as part of Bradwell School I have been committed to the welfare of the children for the past 16 years. In my role as Governor and over the years I have had the privilege to see the school go through many changes and felt I have been able to support the children, staff and parents during these changes and hope to continue this as the school goes from strength to strength supported by ATT.
Mr Neil Smith (Staff)

Academy Committee

After two incredibly exciting years of teaching our wonderful children, I am ready and eager to further support our pupils as staff governor.   I have developed a true love of Sun Academy and am keen to excel learning throughout the whole school. I wear my status as a Sun Academy teacher as a badge of honour, and proudly serve our fantastic sunbeams. I am privileged to spend my days as part of a truly driven and committed team of professionals who constantly strive to unleash the gargantuan wealth of potential that lies within each and every child. The opportunity to more greatly influence our future astronauts, doctors, scientists and Prime Ministers excites me enormously. I strongly believe that we have all of the ingredients to become the greatest academy in human history and will do all that I can to turn this ambition into reality.
